2023 Corruption Perceptions Index reveals that Belgian authorities are becoming complacent in the fight against corruption
The Walloon Parliament’s spending scandal demonstrates once again the lack of transparency in the Belgian political life and that the resulting financial abuses continue to be a problem in our country.
Corruption attacks the very foundation of our democratic institutions by distorting electoral processes, perverting the rule of law, undermining the credibility of public mandates and creating structures and processes aimed at the soliciting of bribes.
Global corruption levels remain almost at a standstill for eleventh year straight. The 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) released today by Transparency International shows that most of the world continues to fail to fight corruption: 95 per cent of countries have made little to no progress since 2017.
